The tree checkout period ends January 7th, 2012.In response to an invitation from Monte Vista, The Portable Forest created The Portable Forest Tree Library, a free holiday tree checkout service  of seventy-one one to seven foot tall evergreen trees from around the  world. The Portable Forest invited Bianca D’Amico of terri planty,  Nicole Antebi, and Amy Blount Lay to collaborate on an exhibition hosted  by Monte Vista opening on November 19, 2011.

The Portable Forest Tree Library


The Portable Forest Tree Library has available for checkout fifteen 1-2 foot, eight 2-3 foot, and five 5-7 holiday trees. Checkouts are available for two-week periods at a time from November 19th – January 7th. 
The rest of the trees are stored at The Portable Forest  Library Storage Facility in Highland Park for exchange and returns.  Trees can also be returned directly to Monte Vista. Your tree and care  form will be provided for free upon agreement to care and return it. If  you try your best and it dies, just return the tree, pot, and saucer as  is. You will not be charged. 
How do I rent a living tree? Visit  Monte Vista Projects during the opening, November 19, 8pm- 10pm, come  during gallery hours: Sat & Sun 12-5 or call to arrange a pick-up or  delivery. See the bottom of this document for locations and hours. We  deliver.

The Portable Forest are potted trees that can travel for shows, events and happenings inside

“The Last Time I Tried To Be Human, It Almost Killed Me”, is a series of environmental cautionary tales framed by the North Sea Selkie myth.
Amy Blount Lay is a transplanted Chicagoan who has been  living and working in Los Angeles since 1990. She received her BFA from  University of Kansas in 1989 and her MFA from California Institute of  the Arts in 1994.  From 1999-2003 she took a hiatus from regular  exhibiting and devoted most of her free time to surfing recreationally  and competitively up and down the California coast. It was during this  time that she began developing a body of work exploring the complex  entanglement of a terrestrial life bordering the marine world.

this sunday is the elephant art space open studios! (aka, where my studio resides). all the artist in residence will have their doors open with projects for viewing. and in our gallery we will have a show by artist dave shulman. and my fellow studio mate, the talented dainelle adair will be doing a performance around 7:30 ish.

to inspire me for the big day i decided to cruise and collect images of some of my favorite lady artists in their work spaces. i couldn't find any of laurie anderson's studio but insisted on posting this image of her in a sweet pair of shades as a potential fashion statement for the day....

recently i went to the la folk fest, which lucky for me (and everyone there) it took place at the zorthian ranch, where two of my all time favorite friends live and make art. it was getting dark quickly by the time i got there, but i got a couple moody shots worth sharing. the night was magic. there is nothing like live music, interesting performers being doing their thing amongst beautiful piles of junk. highlights... kicking up dirt while square dancing with a ton of strangers, amanda joe williams, children out a late hours of the night dancing to good beats, friendly folks, good friends, feeling like you are all having a good time together...

i am looking to move. looking for a new pad. a home for my cats, the chickens and myself. my list of needs is not like most. where many folks prefer larger living quarters, i am willing to make some sacrifices in exchange for yard space. i want enough space to keep my coop, a compost pin, a couple plots of edibles and herbs and of course a space to hula hoop and entertain with a good meal. storage would be a perk. saftey is key. views would be a super bonus. i am a hill girl after all. i hate carpet, but might compromise for the right garden (think kilim rugs EVERYWHERE). windows and good light please. privacy. some character.
with all this being said, i am looking to pinterest to inspire me to live comfortably cozy yet stylish in a small space. what to do with all my treasures? i am thinking loft bed (aka bunk bed / cat jungle). hanging plants, textile collage, bohemian lady land headquarters. a place to rest, to breathe, to relax, to hide, to say hello to the new. i am looking forward to downsizing, featuring only favorites...

recent encounters with art and landscape. i have been trying to work on balancing it all. does it ever get an easier? i am not complaining. i am grateful. i am trying to be in the moment and see it all and do it all.

went to moca yesterday, cruised through the permanent collection, viewed the doug aitken video installation (made me want to dance) and then saw the WILLIAM LEAVITT: THEATER OBJECTS exhibition. it was damn good. i left the space wishing i could steal several paintings for myself. especially the one of the lounge chairs at twilight or the desert landscapes or the houses in the hills. great sense of humor. the show really speaks to the LA landscape / mood / nostalgia. i highly recommend it.

friday night was one of many celebrations of my baby sister's bday and pizza time at my folk's house. nothing like making your own pizza! my dad has a rad pizza oven and my mother has some dough rolling / stretching / preparing skills. we each got to make our own pizza pies. all the ingredients were beautifully displayed on the table. it was really hard to make a decision because i wanted it ALL. i ended up garnishing my pizza with flowers. not surprised, are you?

i have the shopping bug. bad. i splurged at the goodwill today. went with my dear friend erica who is a stylist, bad idea. even in the thrift store we came out full and lucky. it didn't hurt that the joint was bumping some sweet whitney tunes for me to walk the runway in various 80s sweaters, blazers galore!

wednesday night i met up with some of my favorite ladies abby, laure, morgan, and a new lady friend, peggy. we began our lovely evening with dinner at fig & olive. fancy stuff. i indulged in a delicious pinot. after the meal we headed to the book release party for undecorate, a beautiful book that features casual yet sophisticated designs. the book is by dwell studio founder and creative director, christiane lemieux. all the dwell studio chicas were rad. i can't wait to get my paws on a copy of the book!
the party took place at the chateau marmont Hotel bar. the chateau marmont is GORGEOUS. if you haven't been you must. it was dark so my photos don't do it justice. it is like a magical old house filled with treasures.

p.s. did i mention this part was called a "tweet up" - don't we all look so hot while we tweet? i know so.

if you follow this blog, you know that i am super obsessed with my cats. in fact i just had a gorgeous art print made of them (i can't wait to reveal that one in later posts).
i am also a dog lover, horseback riding, chicken snuggling, earth worm rescuing, rabbit housing, and every other animal loving freak. i grew up adoring all animals from a young age, having grown up part time on a small ranch. i have wanted to expand my animal family for some time now. so... when my dear friend allison just recently adopted this gorgeous pup i fell madly in love and now am seriously pondering making the leap.
meet little cowboy. he is as handsome as can be. i mean just look at those paws! he was such a trooper. we walked in the crazy rain and ran around in the yard in the mud. and he LOVES allison. it is too sweet. no one can deny how rad pets are.

just some lovely home images from various sources (links to come). i am half way through a salon style wall in the living room. oh my is it a far more overwhelming experience than i could have ever imagined. i don't recommend doing it at 1 am the night before you have to pick up and host the boyfriend's family. bad idea. hence the half way point. in the mean time i had to look at beautiful images of other people's homes to calm my spirits.

p.s. i loved that pink on those chairs so much i rushed to the studio and made a painting in that color to go in my home. it is official i am the artist that matched the painting to the house. what have i become. oh well. it looks hot. and the images inside the big mass of pink still speak to my feminist critique. take that art world!

i have a ton of photos on my iphone from last weekends thrifting, yard sale, vintage shopping adventure. we started with the oh joy / bando yard sale, then the Mount Washington Outpost where i almost splurged on some butterfly chairs, then headed to revival (again for me) and ended at st vincents where morgan's magic shopping eyes spotted my fabulous buffet that my house NEEDED. she also gifted me rad poofy pillows that make me smile. laure scored me a sweet terri planty vessel. it was a successful trip. looking forward to this weekend...

a sad story about curtains

tonight i experienced a mini decorating tragedy. i went to ikea with the intention of exchanging my newly purchased enje roller shade for one without little punctures. so i did just that. turned it in for store credit, indulged in some sweedish meatballs, cruised in for my new curtain only to find that THEY NO LONGER CARRY ENJE ROLLER BLINDS BECAUSE THEY HAVE STRING THAT HANGS DOWN THEREFORE THEY ARE ILLEGAL IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA. um. excuse me? what the fu*k? i can't put up any other form of curtain in this room. the space is LIMITED. so when we found out the bummer news we nearly cried a little (actually i ended up shopping to cure my sudden sadness) but soon after rushed to the return area where we began our journey and begged to have our original punctured roller returned to us. and she did. and so that is that.
as of midnight tonight ikeas in cali will no longer sell the enje roller curtain! or anything with a string haninging down (ugly regular curtains are the exception) - UNTIL august when they come up with some stringless i don't know what option.
tragic. i know.

ladies weekend

saturday was a lady day. from beginning to end. i started off my vagina tour with a morning performance at redcat. i brought my dear friend lily the yogi to the lady fest. rad artists elana mann and vera brunner-sun invited more super rad artists to participate in a recreation / performative deep listening / choral resonation event. it was some of the most fun i have ever had. it sounds really serious and woo woo. but it was not that at all. it was a meditative process that allowed for you to not only become more aware and make "music" but with the right combo of ladies (which we so had) it was also the most hilarious pee your pants crying we don't give a fuck what you think kind of experience. loved it.

after the ladies more ladies. morgan drove into town and with the lovely laure and abby we headed to the streets of hollywood to the premiere party for the super cool and cute as a button emily henderson! i am so pumped about her new show secrets of a stylist. the lady is talented. as a long time HGTVaholic (it is one of the few cable channels i have, but lets be honest, i would watch it any way) i know that HGTV has been in desperate need of someone with an awesome personality and killer styling instincts. go go emily! and by the way she is the nicest person on the planet and a great dancer! a totally good time. we danced the night away at her party. i think i may have spun her 5 times (her request) until she finally claimed dizzy.
after our jolly good time, yesterday was spent thrifting! again morgan was my thrifting goddess. finding my every need with ease and grace. she even gifted me some amazing pillows to further my hippie chic nest. more on that later.

we ended it perfectly with a millies brunch. yum. the end.

p.s. the photo with emily is with her adorable assistant on the show - orlando and the gorgeous laure. and the kitty also belongs to laure. her name is hazel and i am in LOVE. she nearly ate my furry bag, but then instead decided to hide her whole body in it. i almost took her home.

last weekend after our lovely trip to farmlab's not a cornfield we stopped by revival and scored some rad leather and chrome chairs for a sweet price. they now live in the office (which i have to yet to shoot). i really wanted the black and white vintage metal outdoor chairs, but i had to behave myself. there was also a cool metal bench that was pretty whimsical. in the end i am so happy with the chairs we got. they are sexy stylish and comfy. yeah shopping success!

i just ran into my fellow artist friend jessicaon sunday at our most recent elephant opening. we had a really lovely conversation about balancing art and life and so on. the girl is a serious talent. today i popped into her blog to find her amazing living room, neatly littered with rad sculptures that she makes. i love how hands on she is. she is an artist that actually MAKES things. i am so impressed by her ability to keep a clean home / studio and even more impressed by her beautiful work.

squirrel has a shopping problem

in the spirit of the day that is about couples. let me tell you about a couple i know that loved each other very much. and that was not the only thing they loved. they also loved to shop! shop the flea markets! the local thrift store! anywhere and every where that they could seek vintage delights. as a result now their (our) home is FULL to the brim with great things that we couldn't quite pass up but have no space for. so there was only one thing they could do (well one of), they have decided to reopen thier (our) etsy vintage shop...

introducing squirrel and terradactyl. a shop that features an abundance of vintage odds and ends collected all over the lands in loving treasure hunts. these excellent little and big things may just be that one item you were missing in your life? well in truth i am hoping we can find great homes for all of these wonderful items. erick has a great collection of vintage shirts and funny mugs (still many more to put up on the shop). and no surprise that i am the one filling up the shop with housewares galore. keep in mind we entertain offers! spread the word!

some folks say happy valentine's day! but i prefer - happy vagina day!
yup. lets be honest here. the vagina is shaped like a symbol of love and that is what it really stands for in my book. and the people that i know that have them, well they work really hard at giving their love all year and lets face it - today is about spoiling them!
plus vagina is a very fun word to say. you should try it sometime. whisper it into a friend's ear. yell it out loud. or lovingly call your couch a cute vagina. whatever.

this song is currently on repeat in my world. has been for some time now. i wanted to share the video but it is on some sort of "saftey" hold. you have to sign in to you tube, prove you are 18 or something silly like that to watch it because there are lots of boobies. gold boobies! if you are of age and can handle breasts footage - by all means watch the magic. but in the meantime for sure listen to the song above. so good........
if you just put el guincho in on pandora all the music that pairs up is pretty rad. especially if you like to shake your squirrel tail a little. :)

star trek me

i am working on a project with my boyfriend that involves cats and space. lucky me. so i have been checking out some star trek episodes for inspiration and found myself inspired in other ways. example 1 - that sexy purple number. i am all about it. the boots, the glitz, the barely there coverage and the wicked innocence of it all. yes please. and example 2 - that lamp! and that rock wall! and that crazy door! i want all three of those things in my home. and duh! that color scheme alone is damn sexy. call me a sci fi nerd if you'd like, but i truly believe that star trek is worth a second look. it may just blow your mind.

so in keeping with the topic of art in the home and the drama surrounding what to put up, i took some shots of what has made it up so far to test my feelings about it. of course i am only showing you a sneak peak shot and the pile that rests on the ground for the gray wall.
erick suggests we go out into our neighborhood with cameras in hand and get some shots of our neighborhood to potentially frame. i keep trying to find new ways of showing off our cats. for example my portrait of looey's aura. i am kinda digging it. he sat next to magical crystal and it just triggered uncontrollable ideas of hippie cat art. can you blame me?! the dude looks pretty cool!

we painted our living room wall. now comes art. the process is tricky. how much kitschy thrift store finds, how much of your rad friend's work (that scares your boyfriend and some guests) and how much of your own ( i have so much, where to put it? ). also there are those family photos that are cool from the 60s, 70s and 80s that you like to look at and feel loved. i am working on creative ways of displaying those too.
see the thing is i like kinda strange stuff. i am an artist after all. like i have said in the past, i am not really a big fan of posters that stress affirmations or sweet quotes. i like images that are either so cute you could cry (yes baby kittens) or shock you with their clever borderline offensive imagery. so this morning i came accross my fellow calartian artist friend max maslansky's photo collection on facebook and was loving it (well some of it). it may not be your cup of tea. but i was enjoying the view. it made you think. feel strange inside. it wasn't just a pleasure cruise.

he also has an interesting blog and tumblr. :) warning not for the faint of heart. don't expect pretty sofas.

my cold is finally slipping away. its hard to rest when you start to feel good. you want to run out the door and feed your mind with some action. but my cats keep me grounded. if they sit on my lap i cannot move. sometimes i think they are like secret nurse cats. looking out for me when i am too eager to jump into full speed ahead. they are thinking "cool it mom. you need to get warm and snuggly and take a deep breathe - meow".
the terrarium shot is a sneak peak into whats to come for terri planty. geodes and crystals galore! my cold couldn't keep me from finding a new resource for materials! more on that at my terri planty blog.
the pillow was a gift from morgan. it is super cute but has these little missing fabric bits that i have been filling with brightly colored thread to keep me seated and amused. i was inspired by this image over at roygbiv. bright colors are the key to my heart.

LeCocq was a member of the first feminist art program under the direction of Judy Chicago at CSUF and the second feminist art program at California Institute of the Arts under the direction of Chicago and Miriam Schapiro. At Cal Arts in 1971-72, she participated in the creation of WOMANHOUSE, the first public feminist collaborative art project and exhibition in the world. The project received international attention and was reviewed in TIME magazine as well as art publications around the globe.

i am still sick and i blame it on the roaring good time i had last weekend with my sis (yes morgan you are correct she knows a thing or two about weddings to say the least - the girl was our hitched tour guide), miss morgan (thanks for the brick house hosting - that has got to be my favorite guest room of all time) and my new favorite french girl laure (the lady has got some serious camera skills ).

the event was crazy full of glitz and sand, succulents and champange, stripes and cameras. everyone looked lovely (vendors and guests alike). and it extra exciting to get to meet some of my favorite bloggers in the flesh - especially jamie of desert fete and her husband ben (i think they may be one of the cutest couples i have ever met, no, i know so).
my favorite display was by jamie and britt of tending to it. they had this incredible yet simple idea. shove some lights into a tumble weed, hang it and viola awesome bad ass lighting. swoon.
the large succulent cluster dripping of the table was not half bad either. same goes for the diorama desert scene. nice work ladies.
all in all the event was happening. i especially dug this one little lady who got all up in the confetti and had a dance off of her own. the grilled cheese was killer too. and as always the ace has so much good furniture it makes me happy.

taxi style

still sick. oh man this never ends. but on the positive i have managed to watch almost the entire first season of taxi. i never realized how absolutely amazing that show is. i admit i am enjoying my time spent with latka, alex, louie, elaine, tony, and bobby. oh bobby he is so handsome.
with all that being said, elaine (aka. marilu henner) has now become my fashion hero. the lady rocks some of the sweetest pairs of high waisted jeans, flowy tops, cute vests, blazers paired with scarves and some of the best wrap dresses i have ever seen. not to mention her perfect barely there curls and lovely personality. i am determined to inject a bit of elaine's super fine looks into my post sick wardrobe. (i am hoping my body hears that and is inspired to clear me of this nasty cold - and go!)

desert day

last monday (before the super cold) my pops and i went to the mojave desert. we had such a good time. my dad is the best travel companion. he is so knowledgable about nature, history, where to go, why and when. also quite handy in the camera department. but best of all he is always up for exploring and having an adventure.
we scored in the rocks and cool wood department. brought home all kinds of cool shapes and textures.
the desert was gorgeous, green and lush after all the rains. there were all kinds of puddles that had turned into mini lakes and birds were jumping around having a good time in the wet piles.
my dad took this route where we went through a cool old town that had neat looking motel signs, old diners and great collections of junk in front yards. we stumbled upon an antique store (the one where i got my libra artwork) that went on and on and on and on. i picked up a purple milk crate full cool vintage bottles for terri planty.
we also stopped at this awesome market that sold lots of produce, every kind of nut, trail mix, dried fruit, honey, etc. that you could imagine.
all in all it was good times. i always love to retreat to the desert to hunt for treasure and stare out of the window with some good music collaborating with the view.
tomorrow night (if i am better - please get better body!) my sis and i hed out to hemet to stay with morgan and go to hitched on sunday. are any of you going? i am excited to meet new folks - perhaps i shall see you there! in the meantime - happy weekend. :)

i am sick. yucky sore throat achey slow moving dizzy headache tiered sick. but who cares about that.
i snapped some shots around the house to entertain myself (and then soon returned to the bed). first we have my wild boy kitty cat. mr. looey. he was pumped because he used to be an outdoor cat until he started visiting neighbors farther and farther away. and when i heard about some dog violence in the hood, that was it. no more outdoor kitty time. however. he is not happy with that. so my sister so kindly purchased this stylish purple harness for the dude, he hangs out on a long leash and everybody is happy. the funny part is that he just stands there calmly as i put on his harness, knowing he is going out for play time. much like a dog.
the purple stitched art was one of my sweet finds from my desert day trip with my dad (more photos from that trip later). it was $3! i was so excited when i saw it because: a. i am a libra. b. it is rad. c. it was staring at me amongst all the junk as if though it was meant to be.
the bench in the outdoor patio shot was until recently our tv stand since we had moved in. one of erick's last pieces of furniture. in the process of putting it out in the yard to do away with i realized, shit! this is a useful and kind of a cool piece! i put some cushions, a pot and viola. keeper. i needed something to act as a guard from folks stepping down into my plant lands down there anyway. yipee!
and lastly, i finally got the tord garland up! finally! i love it.
now i just need to get over this cold because this weekend i am going to hitched with the sis. back to sleep. sweet dreams. :)

as usual, i am gathering inspiration from the internet lands...
while traveling amongst the cyber paths i recently found 2 blogs that make my hippie heart melt - earth ageand stopping off place. the above images are from both of these wonderful sources of awesomeness. i totally want all of these things or images to myself.

i did some shopping and it shows. on my coffee table.
the black glazed pottery is from this rad antique shop in eagle rock. they had lots more that i wanted. but i had to behave myself.
the bit of pottery with legs, as i like to refer to it, was a goodwill score. and is currently the perfect place to dump jewelry when relaxing on the couch.
and last but not least the vintage antler brush was a treat to meow from the california gift show. i went on a buying trip for work and worked hard to to be a good girl and not go shopping crazy. but this oddity stole my heart. i am going to hang it on the wall soon.

more found and bought treasures to come. but for now i am pooped. i went to the mojave with my dad and it was so beautiful. if you get a chance get out there! with all the rain we had it is green and lush in desert. sweet sleepers.

the weekend

this weekend was all about the bears and the studio. i took a little break from the home stuff. still staring at the tord boontje garland shade. have to install that puppy soon. more painting to do to (photos soon). but i did watch a healthy dose of football today with erick and many friends, including a new bearded dragon lizard friend. yup. i pretty much watched half of the game with that little one in my hands. the young lady that brought the lizard over was busy building a reptile mansion made of beer and shoe boxes.
after the game, a real game of flag football.
thats right. some sports followed by more sports. i got so aggressive i tore my friends shirt off. i was pissed about the bear's loss and took it out on his t shirt.
then it was off to have a studio visit with my dear friend wendy of dear hancock.
we had a very nice talk about starting our own businesses, the balancing of art and a crafty business and the future. she went home with some new terri planty terrariums for her lovely home and i went home with new found inspiration for my business.
so that about sums up the weekend. tomorrow i am off to the desert with my pops to shoot and look for cool vintage vessels.

i know, i know. lots of photos. so i have some issues with editing! big deal. these shots are from the collective show los angelesin chinatown. my shared art space / studio land elephantwas a participant. the opening was on thursday night. it was c r o w d e d. a friend reunion. including the fabulous and beautiful fellow calartian zackary drucker showcased above, recently featured in interview magazine. so proud!

we had an opening at elephant last weekend and i finally got around to posting the photos. more viewing pleasure here. the openings are good times. if you are ever in the hood i highly recommend them. free beer, art, cool people, cozy fire outside, free fruit from the trees. i don't know that it gets much better than that.
on another thought. notice erick's bright orange shirt. yup, that is a bears shirt. it is sized for me or a child but erick insists on his his team spirit in vintage style. da' bears.

yoga love

my super lovely friend lily is hosting her yoga studio's open house this saturday. if you live in the la area you should really go! i took private lessons with her for several months and it was one of the best experiences ever. i am a stress case most of the time and those months i was with her i was calm and connected. no exaggeration i want to start up again. i can't say enough about how wonderful her techniques are. she is patient, knowledgeable and such a pleasure to be with. her studio is so beautiful too! intimate and nestled in the hills surrounded by gorgeous views. she even has a wall from which to hang upside down! this saturday is her open house - email her for more information. i highly recommend it.

during this rushed effort to get the nest in order i have come across the issue of too many kitty cat things laying around. normally i bring them out for a day or two and then throw them in the closet and out they come and in they go and so on. usually guests arriving is the sign to put away the cat condo, scratching post / pad and millions of toys floating about. but then i came across the kitty tipi and am thinking... perhaps this is a good investment. adorable and meow friendly. how purrr fect (i know. i am a total dork.) via loyal luxe.

another thing on the brain. i need new art. and i am not talking some pretty boring graphic posters that motivate me. i don't love those things. i want something wicked. sexy. perhaps a little weird and dangerous. like how hot would these concrete filled jeans look coming off my wall or laying down with a cat bed perched on top. i think very hot. but i don't know that it is within my budget. i shall continue to dream or perhaps hit the studio and start filling those jeans! maybe i'll create a softer version and fill them with zip lock bags stuffed with glitter.... now that is an idea!

erick and i worked our butts off this monday. we sanded, stained, puddied, painted, cleaned, organized, moved and then some. it was lovely to work so hard together. and then to sit in the results of our labor and be like - yup. that is much better! i won't reveal it all. some things are still a work in progress. for example the tv cabinet (although i prefer to call it the tv buffet) was a real stellar make over. morgan brought it over and at first sight it was not so lovely. rather ugly. and then we slapped on the high gloss black. shined up the brass and viola! a beauty. i am super happy with it. BUTT. we need to grow up and get a flat screen already. our tv is a monster. and i think when we get the flat screen it will look a LOT better.

it was a very successful trip to the long beach flea market. my first time and i absolutely loved it! i came out a shopping hero! a winner! a happy lady. my chicago-ian boyfriend was in great spirits too having had a triumphant playoff game - go bears! so the two of us were high off victory! we had won the weekender's golden globe!
my greatest shopping achievement is kind of a tie. when i really think about it every score was a score in the end. but finding that butterfly chair was a shocker. i mean come on! what are the chances you actually find the chair you wanted for $45 bucks! come on! perhaps second runner up is a sweet vintage cowhide for $35 (yeah that sure beats ikea's price)! i also bought this gorgeous sheep's fur and leather bag. large enough to house my purse requirements and a camera or my laptop. love her! wore the pet purse out and the comments were a-flowing. and my final steals of the day were two unusual vessels for terri planty. i was looking for more small scale containers but am thinking a proper trip to the mojave will be the ticket!
oh! and i almost forgot my new (well actually vintage) brass bangle that my fellow shopper and dear friend erica treated me too (she got one too but different. yup we now have friendship bracelets.)
which brings up a whole other topic. always shop with friends with skills. i would not be here today speaking with such an abundant amount of joy if it was not for the special extra pairs of eyes, opinions and knowledge of my two friends: erica - the stylist and morgan - the interior designer. with that being said i am a lucky girl! meow!

p.s. morgan's car is amazing! we fit two large chairs, 3 happy ladies and bags of treasures. i spent the ride back looking up at the passing palm trees thinking, now this is the life!

i am excited for this weekend. miss morgan is heading north to the la lands and we are going to the long beach flea market. the lady knows how to shop, i love to shop and NEED to - new vessels for terri planty! so the day should be a success!

lastnight my very talented friend debbie came over for dinner. the lady lives in the east coast these days so my time with her was not long enough. i lit candles all over the house to make our reunion romantic. whipped up a delicious dinner, drank some wine and talked business, love, adventures and raising LA hippie babies together (not now - later. i promise i am in no rush. the cats will do just fine!)
in other exciting news - i got my tord boontje lamp in the mail!! yipee! the beauty will be living in my bedroom, naturally. considering all the earthy growth decor in that room there was no other light fixture i would consider. i can't wait to install her!

yup. we got some new rugs up in this joint. well. one of them is newish the other is vintage. my cats have already tested them out. my feet enjoy them. the home is feeling fresh and new and full of color and pattern.
the vintage beauty is from the rose bowl. good times were had. many cool vintage vessels purchased. there was this elderly guy at one booth though that made me worried. he was a little out of it and he had me count my change out for him and i thought: a. someone could take advantage of you. i hope they don't. and b. how amazing that you still do this. you keep setting up your booth and you don't give up.
i wonder if i will be that way as an elderly lady. just keep on plugging on. no matter how obvious it is that it is time for me to retire and make some ceramics in my cabin with my 7 cats and dogs.

i have been looking at so many interior design blogs my head is spinning. one thing i feel is missing from these images is a little bit of messyness. yup thats right a little bit of sloppy land pile fun. cluster and clumps of color. an over abundance of colors and things. i think this stuff does it for me because, well, i am an artist after all. and so, in my process of seeking inspiration to rev up my home space i started reviewing some older photos i took of the studio. the images of the confetti and streamers are the work of the very talented, lovely and my fellow studio mate and calartian miss astri swendsrud. her formalized use of party materials always inspires me to rethink the "stuff" around us. sometimes i get so hooked on needing a particular chair in my space, when really all i need is some foil in a frame with a dash of paint. thats ticket!

it never ends. i see more and more. first of all i have an ikea lamp that needs a shade. i am totally going to make a knitted shade. looking for diy instructions... like now. (anyone got any they recommend?)
